Arjuna uvāca
तेऽवस्थिताः प्रमुखे आचार्याः पितरस्तथा |
मातुलाः श्वशुराः पौत्राः श्यालाः सम्बन्धिनस्तथा ||
मातुलाः श्वशुराः पौत्राः श्यालाः सम्बन्धिनस्तथा ||
te 'vasthitāḥ pramukhe ācāryāḥ pitaras tathā |
mātulāḥ śvaśurāḥ pautrāḥ śyālāḥ sambandhinaś ca ||
mātulāḥ śvaśurāḥ pautrāḥ śyālāḥ sambandhinaś ca ||
Teachers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, maternal uncles, fathers-in-law, grandsons, brothers-in-law, and all other relatives — they all stand before us.
The catalog of kin continues, more exhaustive than before. Arjuna is building his case with each repetition, as grief tends to do — circling the same wound, enumerating what will be lost, unable to move past the count.
