Chapter XVI · Śloka 13
इदमद्य मया लब्धमिमं प्राप्स्ये मनोरथम् ।
इदमस्तीदमपि मे भविष्यति पुनर्धनम् ॥
इदमस्तीदमपि मे भविष्यति पुनर्धनम् ॥
idam adya mayā labdham imaṃ prāpsye manoratham |
idam astīdam api me bhaviṣyati punar dhanam ||
idam astīdam api me bhaviṣyati punar dhanam ||
'This has been gained by me today; this desire I shall attain; this wealth is mine, and this too shall be mine in the future' —
Krishna renders the internal monologue of the demoniac mind with vivid psychological realism: past acquisition, present desire, current possession, and future accumulation form an unbroken chain of ego-centred calculation. The self is entirely identified with what it owns.
