Chapter XVIII · Śloka 29
बुद्धेर्भेदं धृतेश्चैव गुणतस्त्रिविधं श्रृणु |
प्रोच्यमानमशेषेण पृथक्त्वेन धनञ्जय ||
प्रोच्यमानमशेषेण पृथक्त्वेन धनञ्जय ||
buddher bhedaṃ dhṛteś caiva guṇatas tri-vidhaṃ śṛṇu |
procyamānam aśeṣeṇa pṛthaktvena dhanañjaya ||
procyamānam aśeṣeṇa pṛthaktvena dhanañjaya ||
Now hear, O Dhanañjaya, the threefold distinction of intellect and also of steadfastness, according to the modes of nature, as I shall declare them fully and separately.
Krishna introduces the next layer of the three-fold analysis: the quality of one's discernment (buddhi) and one's resolve (dhṛti) are just as mode-conditioned as action and the actor. No faculty of the human being escapes this classification.
