नियतस्य तु संन्यासः कर्मणो नोपपद्यते ।
मोहात्तस्य परित्यागस्तामसः परिकीर्तितः ॥
मोहात्तस्य परित्यागस्तामसः परिकीर्तितः ॥
niyatasya tu sannyāsaḥ karmaṇo nopapadyate |
mohāt tasya parityāgas tāmasaḥ parikīrtitaḥ ||
mohāt tasya parityāgas tāmasaḥ parikīrtitaḥ ||
Renunciation of prescribed duty is not proper; abandoning it out of delusion is declared to be tāmasika renunciation.
Tāmasika tyāga is the lowest form — abandoning one's duties from confusion, laziness, or an undiscriminating avoidance of effort. Such renunciation deepens bondage rather than loosening it.
