Chapter III · Śloka 28
तत्त्ववित्तु महाबाहो गुणकर्मविभागयोः ।
गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते ॥
गुणा गुणेषु वर्तन्त इति मत्वा न सज्जते ॥
tattva-vit tu mahābāho guṇa-karma-vibhāgayoḥ |
guṇā guṇeṣu vartanta iti matvā na sajjate ||
guṇā guṇeṣu vartanta iti matvā na sajjate ||
But one who knows the truth, O Mighty-armed, about the divisions of the qualities and their functions, understanding that qualities move among qualities, is not attached.
The knower of reality recognises that only the guṇas of the sense-organs interact with the guṇas of the objects, and the witnessing Self remains untouched throughout. This discriminative understanding dissolves all sense of personal agency and thus liberates the seeker from clinging.
