Chapter III · Śloka 34
इन्द्रियस्येन्द्रियस्यार्थे रागद्वेषौ व्यवस्थितौ ।
तयोर्न वशमागच्छेत्तौ ह्यस्य परिपन्थिनौ ॥

indriyasyendriyasyārthe rāga-dveṣau vyavasthitau |
tayor na vaśam āgacchet tau hy asya paripanthinau ||

In the objects of each sense, attraction and aversion are fixed; one should not come under the sway of these two, for they are one's adversaries.
Embedded within the very structure of sense-experience are attraction toward pleasant objects and aversion toward unpleasant ones — these are the twin robbers of spiritual discrimination. The practitioner must remain alert to their pull without surrendering to either.
