Chapter V · Śloka 13
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
सर्वकर्माणि मनसा संन्यस्यास्ते सुखं वशी |
नवद्वारे पुरे देही नैव कुर्वन्न कारयन् ||
नवद्वारे पुरे देही नैव कुर्वन्न कारयन् ||
sarva-karmāṇi manasā sannyasyāste sukhaṃ vaśī |
nava-dvāre pure dehī naiva kurvan na kārayan ||
nava-dvāre pure dehī naiva kurvan na kārayan ||
The self-controlled one, having renounced all actions mentally, dwells at ease in the city of nine gates — the embodied one — neither acting nor causing action.
The body is the nine-gated city — two eyes, two ears, two nostrils, mouth, and two lower apertures. The soul dwelling within is not the architect of what passes through these gates; it is the silent resident. To know this is to be free while still housed in the body.
