Chapter VII · Śloka 11
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
बलं बलवतां चाहं कामरागविवर्जितम् ।
धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ ॥
धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ ॥
balaṃ balavatāṃ cāhaṃ kāma-rāga-vivarjitam |
dharma-aviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo 'smi bharatarṣabha ||
dharma-aviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo 'smi bharatarṣabha ||
I am the strength of the strong, free from desire and attachment. In beings I am desire that is not contrary to dharma, O best of Bharatas.
Divine strength (bala) is pure power without the distortion of personal craving; it is strength in service of the whole rather than the ego. Even kāma (desire) is acknowledged as divine when it flows within the order of dharma — the will-to-existence and procreation that sustain the cosmos.
