Chapter VIII · Śloka 28
वेदेषु यज्ञेषु तपःसु चैव
दानेषु यत्पुण्यफलं प्रदिष्टम् ।
अत्येति तत्सर्वमिदं विदित्वा
योगी परं स्थानमुपैति चाद्यम् ॥
दानेषु यत्पुण्यफलं प्रदिष्टम् ।
अत्येति तत्सर्वमिदं विदित्वा
योगी परं स्थानमुपैति चाद्यम् ॥
vedeṣu yajñeṣu tapaḥsu caiva
dāneṣu yat puṇya-phalaṃ pradiṣṭam |
atyeti tat sarvam idaṃ viditvā
yogī paraṃ sthānam upaiti cādyam ||
dāneṣu yat puṇya-phalaṃ pradiṣṭam |
atyeti tat sarvam idaṃ viditvā
yogī paraṃ sthānam upaiti cādyam ||
Whatever meritorious fruit is declared to result from the Vedas, sacrifices, austerities, and gifts — the yogi who knows this transcends all of that and attains the primal, supreme abode.
Chapter VIII closes with a sweeping claim: the knower of Brahman who has absorbed these teachings surpasses all the accumulated merit of Vedic ritual, tapas, and charity, and reaches the ādi — primal, uncreated — supreme state that is Krishna himself.
