Chapter X · Śloka 22
वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः ।
इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥
इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥
vedānāṃ sāma-vedo'smi devānām asmi vāsavaḥ |
indriyāṇāṃ manaś cāsmi bhūtānām asmi cetanā ||
indriyāṇāṃ manaś cāsmi bhūtānām asmi cetanā ||
Among the Vedas I am the Sāma Veda; among the gods I am Vāsava (Indra); among the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am consciousness.
The Sāma Veda, sung in melodious chants, represents the highest expression of Vedic knowledge. Mind is singled out among the senses as the master faculty through which all experience is mediated.
