Chapter X · Śloka 36
द्यूतं छलयतामस्मि तेजस्तेजस्विनामहम् ।
जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम् ॥
जयोऽस्मि व्यवसायोऽस्मि सत्त्वं सत्त्ववतामहम् ॥
dyūtaṃ chalayatām asmi tejas tejasvinām aham |
jayo'smi vyavasāyo'smi sattvaṃ sattvavatām aham ||
jayo'smi vyavasāyo'smi sattvaṃ sattvavatām aham ||
Among deceitful means I am gambling; among the splendorous I am the splendor; I am victory; I am effort (vyavasāya); and I am the goodness (sattva) of the good.
Even in gambling, the most dangerous of competitive pursuits, God's power is operative — this does not condone gambling but declares that even in transgressive powers the divine energy is present. Victory, resolute effort, and intrinsic goodness are each supreme expressions of divine śakti in their domains.
