Chapter XIII · Śloka 18
ज्योतिषामपि तज्ज्योतिस्तमसः परमुच्यते ।
ज्ञानं ज्ञेयं ज्ञानगम्यं हृदि सर्वस्य विष्ठितम् ॥
ज्ञानं ज्ञेयं ज्ञानगम्यं हृदि सर्वस्य विष्ठितम् ॥
jyotiṣām api taj jyotis tamasaḥ param ucyate |
jñānaṃ jñeyaṃ jñāna-gamyaṃ hṛdi sarvasya viṣṭhitam ||
jñānaṃ jñeyaṃ jñāna-gamyaṃ hṛdi sarvasya viṣṭhitam ||
That is the light of lights, said to be beyond darkness; knowledge, the object of knowledge, and the goal of knowledge, seated in the heart of all.
Brahman is the self-luminous light that illumines even the sun, moon, and fire — it is the Awareness behind all awareness. It is simultaneously the knower (jñāna), the known (jñeya), and the path of knowing (jñāna-gamya), dwelling as the Witness in every heart.
