Chapter XIII · Śloka 7
इच्छा द्वेषः सुखं दुःखं सङ्घातश्चेतना धृतिः ।
एतत्क्षेत्रं समासेन सविकारमुदाहृतम् ॥
icchā dveṣaḥ sukhaṃ duḥkhaṃ saṅghātaś cetanā dhṛtiḥ |
etat kṣetraṃ samāsena sa-vikāram udāhṛtam ||
Desire, aversion, pleasure, pain, the aggregate (the body as a whole), consciousness, and fortitude — this is the field briefly described along with its modifications.
The field includes not only the physical body and senses but also the psychic modifications: desire, repulsion, pleasure, pain, and the apparent consciousness that belongs to the body-mind complex. Together these twenty-four principles constitute saṃsāra's entire domain.
