Chapter XIV · Śloka 20
गुणानेतानतीत्य त्रीन्देही देहसमुद्भवान् ।
जन्ममृत्युजरादुःखैर्विमुक्तोऽमृतमश्नुते ॥
जन्ममृत्युजरादुःखैर्विमुक्तोऽमृतमश्नुते ॥
guṇān etān atītya trīn dehī deha-samudbhavān |
janma-mṛtyu-jarā-duḥkhair vimukto 'mṛtam aśnute ||
janma-mṛtyu-jarā-duḥkhair vimukto 'mṛtam aśnute ||
Having transcended these three guṇas which are the origin of the body, the embodied soul is freed from birth, death, old age, and pain, and attains immortality.
Transcendence of the three guṇas is complete liberation: the soul that stands beyond sattva, rajas, and tamas is free from the cycle of embodied existence and tastes deathless Being.
