Chapter XVIII · Śloka 12
अनिष्टमिष्टं मिश्रं च त्रिविधं कर्मणः फलम् ।
भवत्यत्यागिनां प्रेत्य न तु संन्यासिनां क्वचित् ॥
भवत्यत्यागिनां प्रेत्य न तु संन्यासिनां क्वचित् ॥
aniṣṭam iṣṭaṃ miśraṃ ca tri-vidhaṃ karmaṇaḥ phalam |
bhavaty atyāgināṃ pretya na tu sannyāsināṃ kvacit ||
bhavaty atyāgināṃ pretya na tu sannyāsināṃ kvacit ||
The threefold fruit of action — undesirable, desirable, and mixed — accrues after death to those who do not renounce; but for renunciants, never in any way.
The non-renouncer remains bound by the threefold karmic harvest across lives, while the true renouncer, having let go of all fruit-attachment, generates no binding karma and is thus liberated.
