Chapter XVIII · Śloka 45
स्वे स्वे कर्मण्यभिरतः संसिद्धिं लभते नरः |
स्वकर्मनिरतस्य सिद्धिं यथा विन्दति तच्छृणु ||
स्वकर्मनिरतस्य सिद्धिं यथा विन्दति तच्छृणु ||
sve sve karmaṇy abhirataḥ saṃsiddhiṃ labhate naraḥ |
sva-karma-niratasya siddhiṃ yathā vindati tac chṛṇu ||
sva-karma-niratasya siddhiṃ yathā vindati tac chṛṇu ||
Each person, devoted to his own duty, attains perfection. How one devoted to one's own duty finds this perfection — hear that.
The claim is radical in its inclusiveness: perfection — saṃsiddhi — is available to every person through the devoted performance of their own proper work, whatever that work may be. The path is not reserved for the renunciant or the scholar.
