Chapter XVIII · Śloka 60
स्वभावजेन कौन्तेय निबद्धः स्वेन कर्मणा ।
कर्तुं नेच्छसि यन्मोहात्करिष्यस्यवशोऽपि तत् ॥
कर्तुं नेच्छसि यन्मोहात्करिष्यस्यवशोऽपि तत् ॥
svabhāva-jena kaunteya nibaddhaḥ svena karmaṇā |
kartuṃ necchasi yan mohāt kariṣyasy avaśo'pi tat ||
kartuṃ necchasi yan mohāt kariṣyasy avaśo'pi tat ||
Bound by your own action born of your own nature, O son of Kuntī, that which from delusion you do not wish to do — even that you will do helplessly.
Delusion does not free one from nature; it merely makes the compulsion unconscious. Better to act with awareness of dharma than to be driven blindly by one's conditioning.
