Chapter II · Śloka 13
देहिनोऽस्मिन् यथा देहे कौमारं यौवनं जरा |
तथा देहान्तरप्राप्तिर्धीरस्तत्र न मुह्यति ||
तथा देहान्तरप्राप्तिर्धीरस्तत्र न मुह्यति ||
dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṃ yauvanaṃ jarā |
tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati ||
tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati ||
Just as the embodied self passes through childhood, youth, and old age in this body, so too it passes into another body. The wise man is not deluded by this.
Krishna offers an analogy accessible to direct experience: we do not mourn the passing of childhood into youth, because we know the experiencer persists. Death is simply a larger transition of the same kind.
