Chapter II · Śloka 3
क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते |
क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परन्तप ||
klaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayy upapadyate |
kṣudraṃ hṛdaya-daurbalyaṃ tyaktvottiṣṭha parantapa ||
Yield not to impotence, O Pārtha — it does not befit you. Shaking off faint-heartedness, arise, O scorcher of enemies.
Krishna's second verse escalates from rebuke to command: stand up. The epithet parantapa (scorcher of enemies) is ironic here — Arjuna who burns enemies in battle is now himself paralysed by weakness of heart.
