Chapter II · Śloka 55
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
श्रीभगवानुवाच |
प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान् |
आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते ||
प्रजहाति यदा कामान्सर्वान्पार्थ मनोगतान् |
आत्मन्येवात्मना तुष्टः स्थितप्रज्ञस्तदोच्यते ||
śrī-bhagavān uvāca |
prajahāti yadā kāmān sarvān pārtha mano-gatān |
ātmany evātmanā tuṣṭaḥ sthita-prajñas tadocyate ||

The Blessed Lord said: When a person completely casts off all the desires of the mind and is content within the Self by the Self alone, then that one is called of steady wisdom.
The first and definitive mark: desires are not suppressed by will-power but are genuinely relinquished because the Self alone provides complete fulfilment. Ātmany evātmanā — 'in the Self, by the Self' — points to a self-contained joy that needs nothing external.
