Chapter IV · Śloka 2
एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः ।
स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परन्तप ॥

evaṃ paramparā-prāptam imaṃ rājarṣayo viduḥ |
sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa ||
sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa ||
The royal sages knew this yoga received through succession; but through the great lapse of time, O Scorcher of foes, that yoga became lost here.
Over vast stretches of time the pristine wisdom becomes obscured as it passes through imperfect human vessels. Krishna's restatement to Arjuna is therefore a renewal, not a new creation.
