Chapter IV · Śloka 3
स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः ।
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ॥
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ॥
sa evāyaṃ mayā te 'dya yogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥ |
bhakto 'si me sakhā ceti rahasyaṃ hy etad uttamam ||
bhakto 'si me sakhā ceti rahasyaṃ hy etad uttamam ||
That same ancient yoga has been declared to you today by Me, for you are My devotee and friend; this is the supreme secret.
The highest knowledge is not withheld from a qualified recipient; Arjuna receives it because he combines both devotion and friendship with Krishna. The intimacy of the relationship is itself the condition for the transmission of the supreme secret.
