Chapter IV · Śloka 22
यदृच्छालाभसन्तुष्टो द्वन्द्वातीतो विमत्सरः |
समः सिद्धावसिद्धौ च कृत्वापि न निबध्यते ||
समः सिद्धावसिद्धौ च कृत्वापि न निबध्यते ||
yadṛcchā-lābha-santuṣṭo dvandvātīto vimatsaraḥ |
samaḥ siddhāv asiddhau ca kṛtvāpi na nibadhyate ||
samaḥ siddhāv asiddhau ca kṛtvāpi na nibadhyate ||
Satisfied with whatever comes of its own accord, beyond the pairs of opposites, free from envy, and equal in success and failure — even while acting, such a person is not bound.
The liberated actor has renounced control over outcomes without renouncing effort. Contentment with what arrives unsought, equanimity in gain and loss — these are the marks of one who acts in freedom.
