Chapter V · Śloka 3
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
ज्ञेयः स नित्यसंन्यासी यो न द्वेष्टि न काङ्क्षति |
निर्द्वन्द्वो हि महाबाहो सुखं बन्धात्प्रमुच्यते ||
निर्द्वन्द्वो हि महाबाहो सुखं बन्धात्प्रमुच्यते ||
jñeyaḥ sa nitya-sannyāsī yo na dveṣṭi na kāṅkṣati |
nirdvandvo hi mahā-bāho sukhaṃ bandhāt pramucyate ||
nirdvandvo hi mahā-bāho sukhaṃ bandhāt pramucyate ||
One who neither hates nor desires should be known as a constant renunciant. Free from all dualities, O mighty-armed one, he is easily liberated from bondage.
The true sannyāsī is not defined by the robe but by the absence of aversion and craving. When neither attraction nor repulsion governs the heart, one is free — not because one has left the world, but because the world can no longer grip.
