Chapter VI · Śloka 39
एतन्मे संशयं कृष्ण छेत्तुमर्हस्यशेषतः ।
त्वदन्यः संशयस्यास्य छेत्ता न ह्युपपद्यते ॥
त्वदन्यः संशयस्यास्य छेत्ता न ह्युपपद्यते ॥
etan me saṃśayaṃ kṛṣṇa
cchettum arhasy aśeṣataḥ |
tvad anyaḥ saṃśayasyāsya
cchettā na hy upapadyate ||
cchettum arhasy aśeṣataḥ |
tvad anyaḥ saṃśayasyāsya
cchettā na hy upapadyate ||
O Kṛṣṇa, you alone are worthy to cut away this doubt of mine entirely — no one other than you can dispel it.
Arjuna's surrender of doubt to the teacher is itself a spiritual act; he does not seek a philosophical debate but recognises that only the one who embodies the truth can truly dissolve uncertainty. The request invites one of the most consoling passages in the Gītā.
