Chapter VII · Śloka 13
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
त्रिभिर्गुणमयैर्भावैरेभिः सर्वमिदं जगत् ।
मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्यः परमव्ययम् ॥
मोहितं नाभिजानाति मामेभ्यः परमव्ययम् ॥
tribhir guṇa-mayair bhāvair ebhiḥ sarvam idaṃ jagat |
mohitaṃ nābhijānāti mām ebhyaḥ param avyayam ||
mohitaṃ nābhijānāti mām ebhyaḥ param avyayam ||
Deluded by these three states arising from the guṇas, the entire world fails to know Me, who am beyond them and imperishable.
The three guṇas create a universal hypnosis — mohitam, deluded — in which even the most refined mind, still operating within the three modes, cannot perceive the avyaya (imperishable) reality that stands beyond all modification. This is the epistemic consequence of māyā.
