Chapter IX · Śloka 19
तपाम्यहमहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्युत्सृजामि च ।
अमृतं चैव मृत्युश्च सदसच्चाहमर्जुन ॥
अमृतं चैव मृत्युश्च सदसच्चाहमर्जुन ॥
tapāmy aham ahaṃ varṣaṃ nigṛhṇāmy utsṛjāmi ca |
amṛtaṃ caiva mṛtyuś ca sad asac cāham arjuna ||
amṛtaṃ caiva mṛtyuś ca sad asac cāham arjuna ||
I give heat; I withhold and send forth rain. I am immortality and also death; I am being and non-being, O Arjuna.
Contraries — heat and rain, immortality and death, existence and non-existence — are all expressions of the one reality. Kṛṣṇa is not merely beyond opposites; He is the dynamic ground in which they arise.
