Chapter X · Śloka 31
पवनः पवतामस्मि रामः शस्त्रभृतामहम् ।
झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी ॥

pavanaḥ pavatām asmi rāmaḥ śastra-bhṛtām aham |
jhaṣāṇāṃ makaraś cāsmi srotasām asmi jāhnavī ||
jhaṣāṇāṃ makaraś cāsmi srotasām asmi jāhnavī ||
Among purifiers I am the wind; among warriors who bear weapons I am Rāma; among fish I am the Makara (crocodile or sea-monster); and among rivers I am the Jāhnavī (Gaṅgā).
Vāyu, the wind, purifies everything it touches and sustains all life through breath. Rāma, the ideal king and hero of the Rāmāyaṇa, stands supreme among all weapon-bearing warriors; the Gaṅgā, born from Viṣṇu's foot and Śiva's locks, is the holiest of all rivers.
