Chapter XIV · Śloka 13
अप्रकाशोऽप्रवृत्तिश्च प्रमादो मोह एव च ।
तमस्येतानि जायन्ते विवृद्धे कुरुनन्दन ॥
तमस्येतानि जायन्ते विवृद्धे कुरुनन्दन ॥
aprakāśo 'pravṛttiś ca pramādo moha eva ca |
tamasy etāni jāyante vivṛddhe kuru-nandana ||
tamasy etāni jāyante vivṛddhe kuru-nandana ||
Darkness, inactivity, negligence, and delusion — these arise when tamas is predominant, O joy of the Kurus.
Tamas announces itself through the darkening of understanding, the withdrawal of initiative, careless heedlessness, and the fog of confusion that obscures right discernment.
