Chapter XV · Śloka 8
शरीरं यदवाप्नोति
यच्चाप्युत्क्रामतीश्वरः ।
गृहीत्वैतानि संयाति
वायुर्गन्धानिवाशयात् ॥
यच्चाप्युत्क्रामतीश्वरः ।
गृहीत्वैतानि संयाति
वायुर्गन्धानिवाशयात् ॥
śarīraṃ yad avāpnoti
yac cāpy utkrāmatīśvaraḥ |
gṛhītvaitāni saṃyāti
vāyur gandhān ivāśayāt ||
yac cāpy utkrāmatīśvaraḥ |
gṛhītvaitāni saṃyāti
vāyur gandhān ivāśayāt ||
When the lord of the body acquires a body and when he departs it, he takes these along, as the wind carries fragrances from their source.
The jīvātman, lord of its bodily field, carries the subtle body — mind and senses — from one incarnation to the next, just as wind lifts scent from a flower without the flower perceiving the loss. This explains the mechanism of transmigration.
