Chapter XV · Śloka 7
ममैवांशो जीवलोके
जीवभूतः सनातनः ।
मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि
प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति ॥
जीवभूतः सनातनः ।
मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि
प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति ॥
mamaivāṃśo jīva-loke
jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ |
manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi
prakṛti-sthāni karṣati ||
jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ |
manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi
prakṛti-sthāni karṣati ||
A fragment of My own eternal Self becomes the individual soul in the world of the living. It draws to itself the six senses — the five senses and the mind — that rest in nature.
Every individual jīva is not a separate creation but an eternal portion of the Supreme, yet within prakṛti it assumes individuality and strains to animate the senses. This verse establishes both the absolute unity (fragment of Kṛṣṇa) and the relative distinction (jīva in prakṛti).
