Chapter II · Śloka 24
अच्छेद्योऽयमदाह्योऽयमक्लेद्योऽशोष्य एव च |
नित्यः सर्वगतः स्थाणुरचलोऽयं सनातनः ||
नित्यः सर्वगतः स्थाणुरचलोऽयं सनातनः ||
acchedyo 'yam adāhyo 'yam akledyo 'śoṣya eva ca |
nityaḥ sarva-gataḥ sthāṇur acalo 'yaṃ sanātanaḥ ||
nityaḥ sarva-gataḥ sthāṇur acalo 'yaṃ sanātanaḥ ||
This self cannot be cut, nor burned, nor wetted, nor dried. It is eternal, all-pervading, stable, immovable, and primeval.
Seven attributes — indestructible, unburnable, unwettable, undryable, eternal, omnipresent, immovable — complete the portrait of the ātman. Where the previous verse denied harm by external forces, this verse affirms the positive nature of the self: it is not merely indestructible but positively present everywhere, always.
