Chapter II · Śloka 44
भोगैश्वर्यप्रसक्तानां तयापहृतचेतसाम् |
व्यवसायात्मिका बुद्धिः समाधौ न विधीयते ||

bhogaiśvarya-prasaktānāṃ tayāpahṛta-cetasām |
vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate ||
vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate ||
In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service does not take place.
The intelligence required for steady spiritual progress cannot coexist with minds seized by craving. The flower of discernment cannot bloom in soil saturated with desire for pleasure and power. This is not condemnation but diagnosis.
