Chapter II · Śloka 63
क्रोधाद्भवति सम्मोहः सम्मोहात्स्मृतिविभ्रमः |
स्मृतिभ्रंशाद्बुद्धिनाशो बुद्धिनाशात्प्रणश्यति ||
स्मृतिभ्रंशाद्बुद्धिनाशो बुद्धिनाशात्प्रणश्यति ||
krodhād bhavati sammohaḥ sammohāt smṛti-vibhramaḥ |
smṛti-bhraṃśād buddhi-nāśo buddhi-nāśāt praṇaśyati ||
smṛti-bhraṃśād buddhi-nāśo buddhi-nāśāt praṇaśyati ||
From anger comes delusion, from delusion loss of memory, from loss of memory destruction of the intellect, and from destruction of the intellect one perishes.
The cascade completes: anger → delusion → loss of smṛti (the accumulated wisdom of training and experience) → buddhi-nāśa (collapse of discriminating intelligence) → total ruin. Smṛti here is not mere recollection but the living memory of who one truly is.
