A yogī should constantly engage the self in practice, remaining alone in a secluded place, with mind and body restrained, free from desire and the impulse to acquire.
Krishna now prescribes the practical conditions for meditation: solitude, restraint of body and mind, absence of longing for things not yet had, and absence of clinging to things already possessed. These are not permanent conditions but the fertile ground from which steady practice grows.
