Chapter VI · Śloka 18
यदा विनियतं चित्तमात्मन्येवावतिष्ठते |
निःस्पृहः सर्वकामेभ्यो युक्त इत्युच्यते तदा ||
निःस्पृहः सर्वकामेभ्यो युक्त इत्युच्यते तदा ||
yadā viniyataṃ cittam ātmany evāvatiṣṭhate |
niḥspṛhaḥ sarva-kāmebhyo yukta ity ucyate tadā ||
niḥspṛhaḥ sarva-kāmebhyo yukta ity ucyate tadā ||
When the perfectly restrained mind rests in the self alone, free from longing for all desires, then one is said to be in yoga.
The definition of the yogic state: the mind, having been trained to stillness, discovers its own natural resting place — the self. This is not suppression of desire through effort but the spontaneous falling away of desire when the mind tastes what it was always seeking.
