Chapter VI · Śloka 19
यथा दीपो निवातस्थो नेङ्गते सोपमा स्मृता |
योगिनो यतचित्तस्य युञ्जतो योगमात्मनः ||
yathā dīpo nivāta-stho neṅgate sopamā smṛtā |
yogino yata-cittasya yuñjato yogam ātmanaḥ ||
As a lamp in a windless place does not flicker — that is the simile recalled for the yogī of restrained mind, engaged in the yoga of the self.
The lamp does not struggle to remain still — it is still because there is no wind. The yogī does not strain to maintain equanimity — equanimity becomes their natural condition when the winds of desire and fear no longer blow through the mind. This is the fruit of practice.
