Chapter VI · Śloka 25
Śrī Kṛṣṇa uvāca
शनैः शनैरुपरमेद्बुद्ध्या धृतिगृहीतया ।
आत्मसंस्थं मनः कृत्वा न किञ्चिदपि चिन्तयेत् ॥
śanaiḥ śanair uparamed
buddhyā dhṛti-gṛhītayā |
ātma-saṃsthaṃ manaḥ kṛtvā
na kiñcid api cintayet ||
Gradually, step by step, let one withdraw through the intellect armed with firm resolve; fixing the mind upon the Self, one should think of nothing at all.
Withdrawal from sense-objects is not abrupt but a patient, progressive process guided by a will fortified in discrimination. When the mind is fully established in the Self, even the effort of thinking ceases.
