Chapter VI · Śloka 33
Arjuna uvāca
योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन ।
एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥
एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात्स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥
yo 'yaṃ yogas tvayā proktaḥ
sāmyena madhusūdana |
etasyāhaṃ na paśyāmi
cañcalatvāt sthitiṃ sthirām ||
sāmyena madhusūdana |
etasyāhaṃ na paśyāmi
cañcalatvāt sthitiṃ sthirām ||
O Madhusūdana, this yoga of equanimity that you have declared — I do not see its stable foundation on account of the mind's restlessness.
Arjuna voices the universal human predicament: the teaching is intellectually compelling, but the practitioner's actual experience of his own fluctuating mind casts doubt on its attainability. His honesty here is itself a form of yoga — truthful self-appraisal rather than false assurance.
