Chapter XII · Śloka 17
यो न हृष्यति न द्वेष्टि न शोचति न काङ्क्षति ।
शुभाशुभपरित्यागी भक्तिमान्यः स मे प्रियः ॥
yo na hṛṣyati na dveṣṭi na śocati na kāṅkṣati |
śubhāśubha-parityāgī bhaktimān yaḥ sa me priyaḥ ||
One who neither rejoices nor hates, who neither grieves nor desires, who has renounced the auspicious and inauspicious — such a devotee is dear to Me.
The four pairs of opposite reactions — rejoicing/hatred, grief/desire, auspicious/inauspicious outcomes — are all relinquished by the mature devotee. Equanimity towards all results of action is the hallmark described here.
